Chapter 11
The Elder's Decree
The Elder of the Pure City condemns Lian Xue's proposal as ultimate heresy. Their dogma of the sacred body is paramount. He fears the storm of Qi more than the Harvesters themselves.
The Great Hall of the Pure City, usually a sanctuary of hushed reverence, now vibrated with a discordant clamor. Holographic projections of the Council of the Three Realms flickered, casting ephemeral shadows upon the polished obsidian floor. Dr. Lian Xue stood before them, her heart a hummingbird trapped in a cage of ribs, the weight of her translated truth pressing down like a collapsing star. A… business opportunity, perhaps.” It glanced at Lian Xue, a flicker of calculation in its multifaceted gaze. “The ‘Qi’ you describe, this primordial breath… could it be harnessed? Refined? Bottled, even?”
