Romantasy
Romantasy is the hybrid where the romance arc and the fantasy plot are load-bearing equals: take out the love story or the magic system and the book collapses. Fae courts, dragon riders, magical academies β and at the center, a slow-burn romance with consequences for the war, the throne, or the world.
It's the defining publishing phenomenon of the BookTok era β Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros turned the blend into bestseller-list permanence, and 'romantasy' went from hashtag to official shelf label. The reader contract is specific: a heroine with agency, a love interest with secrets, political stakes that escalate with the relationship, and at least one ballroom scene someone will screenshot.

- βThe dragon your village sacrifices to hasn't eaten anyone in two hundred years. You're this year's offering, and you find out why.β
- βMagic is dying, and the last enchanted objects are kept in a museum. You're the night guard, and tonight one of them spoke your name.β
