SOUNDBITE: Lockers slamming shut. Aggressive laughter echoes down a crowded college hallway.

NARRATOR (V.O.) They called it the real world. I just called it surviving. Surviving the endless lectures, the ramen-for-dinner nights, and the casual cruelty that seemed to be the main currency exchanged in these hallowed halls. My name is Minseo, and if there was a prize for being unremarkable, I’d probably misplace the application.

CUT TO: A cramped, fluorescent-lit hallway, a cacophony of slamming lockers and boisterous chatter. I clutched my worn textbooks to my chest, trying to melt into the passing tide of students. My shortcut, a desperate attempt to avoid the usual gauntlet, had failed. A shadow fell over me, heavy and unwelcome.

BULLY (Smirking, his voice laced with a cruel amusement) Watch where you're going, charity case.

His hand, rough and calloused, shoved me hard against the cold metal of a locker. My books, my precious, hard-won knowledge, scattered across the grimy linoleum floor like fallen leaves. The laughter that followed was sharp, mocking, echoing the hollowness in my own chest. I scrambled to gather my belongings, my cheeks burning with a familiar shame. They always found me. The ordinary boy, the easy target.

CUT TO: The cozy, dimly lit interior of "The Daily Grind," my sanctuary. The aroma of roasted coffee beans and sugary pastries usually soothed my frayed nerves, but today, the sight of my best friend, Jihoon, sitting opposite me, his jaw clenched tight, was more potent than any caffeine. He slammed down a tall glass of iced americano, the condensation misting the table.

BEST FRIEND (His voice a low growl, barely contained fury) They do that again, and I’m breaking their noses. Seriously, Minseo. You can't keep taking shortcuts through dark alleys just to avoid them. It’s not worth it.

I sighed, tracing the condensation ring on the table with my fingertip. “It’s fine, Jihoon. It’s just… easier.”

Jihoon scoffed, leaning forward, his dark eyes intense. “Easier? You’re practically inviting trouble. Running from one set of monsters just to stumble into another. What kind of logic is that?”

I offered a weak smile, trying to deflect his worry. “Just trying to get home without another incident.”

BEST FRIEND (Muttering) There are worse things than a few bruises, you know.

I knew what he meant. He worried about the deeper scars, the ones that didn’t fade. But he didn’t understand the suffocating weight of constant anxiety, the desperate need to just disappear for a little while.

CUT TO: Night. The city lights, usually a comforting glow, seemed distant and weak. A heavy, unnatural fog had rolled in, swallowing the familiar streets in a shroud of gray. The air was thick, damp, and unnervingly silent. Against Jihoon’s fervent pleas, I’d taken the shortcut. The alley was a narrow, oppressive passage, the brick walls slick with a perpetual dampness. The only sound was the soft pad of my own footsteps, a lonely rhythm in the encroaching darkness. I told myself it was a few minutes saved, a brief respite from the crowded, judgmental gaze of the campus.

NARRATOR (V.O.) But running away from human monsters… would lead him straight into the territory of a real one. A place where the shadows held teeth, and the night was ruled by beings far more ancient and terrifying than any schoolyard bully.

The fog seemed to thicken, pressing in on me, suffocating. A chill, not of the autumn air, snaked up my spine. The usual distant hum of the city was gone, replaced by an oppressive silence that felt… wrong. Then, a sudden, unnatural wind howled, not a gust, but a deep, guttural roar that seemed to rip through the fabric of reality. The ground beneath me gave way. Not a crack, not a stumble, but a complete, terrifying collapse. I screamed, a choked, ragged sound, as I plunged into a dark, bottomless abyss. The world dissolved into a nauseating freefall, the wind tearing at my clothes, the darkness absolute.

CUT TO: The sickening thud of impact. Cold, unforgiving stone pressed against my back, stealing the breath from my lungs. I lay there for a moment, stunned, my body aching, my mind reeling. Where… where was I? Slowly, cautiously, I pushed myself up, my hands sinking into a fine layer of dust. My eyes, still adjusting to the Stygian gloom, scanned my surroundings.

A massive, gothic library. Towering bookshelves, laden with ancient tomes, stretched into the unseen heights of the vaulted ceiling. The air was heavy with the scent of aged paper, dust, and something else… something metallic and faintly sweet. It was a place of silent, imposing grandeur, a tomb of knowledge.

Panic began to bubble in my chest, hot and suffocating. This wasn't an alley. This wasn't even the city. How had I gotten here? Then, the sound. Slow, deliberate footsteps. They echoed in the vast silence, each one a hammer blow against my already frayed nerves. They were approaching. Out of the deepest shadows, where the darkness seemed to congeal, two points of light began to glow. Crimson. Like embers, burning with an ancient, predatory hunger. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic bird trapped in a cage.

The footsteps stopped. The glowing eyes, impossibly bright, fixed on me. A voice, deep and resonant, cut through the silence. It was a sound that vibrated in my very bones, a dark, breathtakingly cold melody.

VAELEN (V.O. / Dark, breathtakingly cold) A human? You've wandered straight into the heart of the realm. Such… insolence.

The voice was like ice, sharp and beautiful. As the owner of the voice stepped further into the faint light filtering from some unseen source, my breath hitched. He was tall, impossibly so, his silhouette etched against the darkness. His features were sharp, aristocratic, carved from marble and shadow. A cape, the color of midnight, swirled around him, adding to his imposing aura. But it was his eyes that held me captive. They were the color of spilled blood, ancient and knowing, and they bored into me with an intensity that felt both terrifying and… strangely, irrevocably compelling.

He tilted his head, a predator assessing its prey. A slow, predatory smile, revealing teeth that were just a little too long, a little too sharp, curved his lips.

VAELEN (His voice now laced with a dangerous amusement) Tell me, little trespasser. How is it that you, a mere mortal, breathe the air of my domain? And more importantly… what are you going to do about it?
