The Gene-Aristocrats attempt to negotiate with the approaching fleet, offering their longevity technology. They discover the Harvesters do not negotiate; they consume.

The Gene-Aristocrat envoy, a being of sculpted amber and shifting crystal facets, projected an aura of cool detachment. Their form, a symphony of bio-engineered perfection, shimmered under the sterile light of the Council chamber. Beside them, the Celestial Man representative’s metallic voice grated like grinding gears, while the Elder of the Pure City, draped in somber robes that seemed to absorb all light, emanated an almost palpable disapproval. Dr. Lian Xue stood before them, the weight of forty days pressing down on her shoulders like a physical burden. She had presented her case, the chilling truth of humanity’s origins and the impending doom, and now the silence stretched, taut and brittle.

It was the Gene-Aristocrat who broke it, their voice a melodic chime, each syllable carefully placed. "Dr. Lian Xue," they began, their crystalline eyes, multifaceted and unblinking, fixed on her. "Your presentation is… compelling. The notion of our creators returning as 'harvesters' is, shall we say, a dramatic interpretation. However, the threat of the approaching fleet is undeniable. We, the Gene-Aristocrats, have always believed in preparedness. And in opportunity."

Lian Xue felt a flicker of unease. The Aristocrats’ ‘opportunity’ rarely aligned with the survival of others. "This is not an opportunity, but annihilation," she stated, her voice firm, though her heart hammered against her ribs. "They do not seek an exchange. They seek a harvest."
